Many of my students have shown an interest in performing San Nin Dori Jiu Waza. In particular they requested a set of guidelines in order to approach it. The best way, in my opinion, is to simplify the technique by breaking it down into a few important aspects.

1.

There is very limited time to perform on each Uke. So, the best way to save time is to choose very quick and simple techniques: Kokunage, Shomen Iriminage (by cutting down behind Uke), the Avoiding technique (use your hand to intercept the attack and use the space created between Uke's hand and your hand to escape), Irimitsuki, Kotegayshi (cut down backwards as you step forward), and the Sweeping technique.

2.

While performing a technique on one Uke, Shite should always concentrate on the next Uke. Failure to do so will result in Shite getting tangled up with one Uke while the others will have ample opportunity to attack.

3.

Train your eyes to focus on the situation in a slightly different way than usual. Concentrate on putting Uke into the background rather than focusing on Uke himself. Practise this by placing an object infront of your eyes and then looking at the object once while ignoring the background. Then make the background the main item of focus while the object infront of you is just part of the scene.

4.

Practise only the Avoiding technique with the Ukes. Pay attention that you never move in between Ukes but always around them.

5.

One of the most important factors is keeping the same pace. Shite should always set the pace. Start training in a very slow fashion, slowly picking up the pace. If Shite doesn't control the pace Uke will.

6.

The power Shite uses in his performance is determined by Uke's reaction. The stronger the attack or the worse Uke's reaction to Shite's technique the stronger the performance of the technique. Remember, the weaker or less confident Shite is, the stronger Uke will be.

These are the main points to consider. By always keeping them in mind San Nin Dori Jiu Waza should present no problem.
